In Dec 2023 Stonepillow asked me to write a poem for their Winter Appeal to raise awareness and funding for their local hubs. At the Big Sleep out event in September 2024, I read the poem at Chichester Cathedral.
I wanted to write a poem that conveyed the positive difference that the hubs make to people living on the streets. There IS somewhere you go and there ARE people who will help.
Most of us have experienced how a simple cup of tea given with kindness and respect can be the turning point in times of crisis. And you know what? There’s this place, right here that can offer that refuge and support.
The poem speaks of a literal place that you can go to for support for practical help and yet it’s also referring to the place in our hearts that is willing to listen, to reach out to others in need, to hold someone up when they most need it.
